Wath Development XV 72 Dinnington 2s/3s 3

Wath Development XV 72 – 3 Dinnington 2nd/3rds

The final pre-season match saw Dinnington welcomed to Moor Road to play a very young Development team on a hot and humid summer afternoon.
Dinnington applied all the early pressure and scored from a penalty. This was to prove to be there only impact upon the scoreboard as Wath built a substantial half time lead of 34-3 with three well finished tries from Ben Cairns, two from Adam West and a fine solo try from captain Jim West.

The second half saw Wath at their irresistible best with the forwards producing quick ball and the backs creating opportunities through some incisive running and crisp handling. Second half tries were scored by Adam West, Sam Holt, Jordan Fleming, Jacob Mangham, Ben Cairns and Curtis Brownrigg.

Once again the youngsters shone with outstanding performances from Curtis Brownrigg, Jacob Bradder, Ben Cairns, Sam Holt, Jacob Mangham, Corey Cox and Charlie Higgins ably supported by ‘old timers’ Adam and Jim West, Luke Pendlebury and Joey Minshull. The future looks bright in the hands of this crop of youngsters as they continue to be developed and nurtured by the coaching team.

Next week sees the 1st XV take on Bradford Salem at home in the Yorkshire Shield with a much changed team from last season following the retirement of stalwarts Simon Lines and Richard Hill and the unavailablity of Steve Mason, Antony Barratt, Gareth Webb and many others. It is very much a re-building season when many of our bright young players will be stepping up to 1st XV rugby.
